Mexico Blanks U.S.A 5-0 in Gold Cup Final!

Mexico taught the U.S.A men's soccer team a harsh lesson yesterday, routing them 5-0 in the Gold Cup Finals. The U.S.A using what could be described as no better than a "C" team, were dominated in midfield and attack by number 17 Giovanni Dos-Santos and number 11 Carlos Vela. The U.S.A had no answer to the Mexicans depth touches and speed in attack. The Mexican team also broke several half side traps that left the U.S.A defense to play catch up on several occasions.

Mexico will no doubt go into next month world cup qualifier against the U.S.A not only as favourites but will also have a mental edge over them because of the way they dominated the U.S.A in the Gold Cup Finals.

Below are some highlights of the goals scored in yesterdays final.

Rutgers University Men's Soccer 2009 Preseason Review

Rutgers University Men's Soccer Team

Rutgers University men's soccer had a poor showing last season. The Scarlet knights won a total of 6 games, 3 of which came in Big East Conference play. Those 3 wins saw them finishing in last place in the Big East Conference Red Division. The preseason looks dull rather than bright for the Scarlet Knights as stand out forward Dilly Duka who was the leading goal scorer for the team last season, has left Rutgers to pursue other possible soccer options. The Knights will have returning players such the speedy Chris Edwards and the diminutive Forward Stafford Chipungu.Other impact players include defense/midfield Scot Cameron and the big burly striker Charlie Cox.

If the aforementioned players show great form in the 2009 season, the Scarlet Knights should at the very least, challenge for a playoff spot in the Big East Conference.

The Team is coached by Bob Reasso.

Villanova Wildcats Men's Soccer Team

The Villanova wildcats men's soccer team won a total of seven games last season(Yes 7 !!!!) Despite only have four wins in Big East Conference play, the wildcats were able to secure a play off spot from the 'red' group to the Big East Tournament. The wildcats will look to improve last season mediocre performance with returning defender Chris Christian.Like his female counterpart in defence, (Laura Sylvester)the six foot plus burly defender's menacing presence often spurns his opponents attacks on goal.Other players expected to have a huge impact on the wildcats this season include Speedy and skillful midfielder Anthony Griffith, midfield general and play maker Brent Hooper and leading goal scorer for the wildcats in each of the last three seasons Mike Seamon.

The team is coached by Tom Carlin.

The Lady wild cats won only 4 games and finished 6th place in the 'national' group of the Big East Conference. They will look to improve under senior Laura Sylvester who will return for her forth and final year. She should continue to thwart the opponents attack on goal.Forward Nicole Coia should help the Lady Wildcats in attack with her speed and skillful play on the ball. She should prove difficult to disposses of the ball in breakaway situations.Other player that should also have a impact year for Villanova include sophomore forward Rachel Breton, the speedy Lindsey Haroutunian and midfield maestro, playmaker and reigning Big East midfielder of the year Erin Hardiman.
