Big East Conference Women's Soccer:Let the Playoffs Begin !!

Rutgers women's soccer and 9 other teams clinch a play off spot today.

The regular season has ended in the Big East conference and the top teams has earned a spot in the Big East Conference Playoffs.On October 29, Connecticut will play way at Villanova and South Florida will entertain Depaul in the first round. All four teams are playing for a berth in the Quarter finals.On November 1st, Notre Dame will hosts the winner of the Depaul/South Florida game.Georgetown plays away at Saint Johns,Rutgers welcomes West Virginia and Marquette will entertain the winner of the Connecticut/Villanova game.

Several teams played their final game of the 2009 soccer season earlier today.Pittsburgh, Providence College and Syracuse all ended their season today. Other teams in the Big East Conference who ended their game today include Cincinnati, Seton Hall and the disappointing Louisville.

Big East Conference Women's Soccer Results

Marquette women's soccer team are 'American Division' regular season Champ!

Marquette clipped Saint Johns 1-0 and claimed a #1 seed as well as the regular season title in the 'American Division' of the Big East Conference. The game winning goal was scored by Senior Defender/Midfielder/Forward Becky Ryan in the 86Th minute of play.

Notre Dame also claimed a #1 seed in post season play as well as the regular season title in the 'National Division', when they knocked off Georgetown 2-0. The goals came from Junior Midfielder/Forward Taylor Knaack and Junior Defender/Midfielder Lauren Fowlkes who scored in the 10Th and 58Th minutes respectively.

Pittsburgh clipped Connecticut 1-0 in overtime. The game winning goal came from Senior Midfielder Katie Caslin who netted in the 93Rd minute of play.

West Virginia edged Providence College 1-0. The all important goal was scored by Junior Forward Megan Mischler in the 19Th minute of play.

Syracuse ended their season with a 3-2 win over South Florida. Syracuse's goals came from Freshman Midfielder Tina Romagnuolo eventually netted the game winner, when she score in the 11Th and 81St minutes respectively. Senior Forward Tessa McDougall scored in the 52Th minute.Although South Florida eventually rallied to tie the game 2-2. South Florida's consolation goals came from Sophomore Forward Chelsea Kloz and Junior Defender Angelique Waller who scored in the 64Th and 76Th minutes respectively.

Rutgers and Louisville battled to a 1-1 draw.Louisville drew first blood when Freshman Forward Emily Cardell netted in the 14Th minute. Rutgers would later equalize through Red-Shirt Freshman Forward April Price in the 17Th minute of play.

Villanova clipped Depaul 1-0. The game winning goal came from Junior Midfielder Justine Wollner who scored in the 39Th minute of play.

Cincinnati slammed Seton Hall 4-0. The goals stated pouring in, when Senior Forward Erin McDonald netted in the 28Th minute of the game.Junior Forward Kendall Loggins made it 2-0 when she netted in the 58Th minute of play.Freshman Forward Evi Ranson scored in the 84Th minute to make it 3-0. Seton Hall scored an own goal in the 88Th minute to make it 4-0.

Women's Soccer: The Big East Conference Final Round Regular Season Matches are on Today!

Sophomore Forward Melissa Henderson and Notre Dame take on Georgetown in Big East Conference final round of regular season games.


Today's round of games marks the end of the regular season in the Big East Conference women's soccer Blue and American Divisions. Depaul entertains Villanova, Cincinnati welcomes Seton Hall,Providence College hosts West Virginia and Syracuse entertains South Florida.In others games on today, Connecticut takes on Pittsburgh,Rutgers plays away at Louisville,Saint Johns entertains Marquette and in Soccernista's match of the day, Notre Dame welcomes Georgetown.

Women's Soccer Results:Notre Dame Destroys UCONN 6-1 !!


Junior Forward Rose Augustin scored twice as Notre Dame dismantled Connecticut 6-1.

In Friday's Big East Conference women's soccer results, Notre Dame Dismantled Connecticut 6-1. Notre Dame opened the scoring when Junior Midfielder/Forward Taylor Knaack netted in the 10Th and 31St minutes.Junior Forward Rose Augustin also scored a brace,when she netted in the 23Rd and 79Th minutes of the game. Junior Midfielder/Forward Erica Iantorno completed the Irish route, when she netted in 65Th and 80Th minutes respectively. Connecticut's consolation goal came from Freshman Midfielder Linda Ruutu who scored in the 66Th minute of play.

Marquette edged Cincinnati 1-0. The lone and winning goal was scored by Marquette Junior Forward Ashley Bare in the 35Th minute of play.

Villanova and West Virginia battled to a 0-0 draw in double overtime.

South Florida blanked Louisville 3-0. The goals came from Freshman Midfielder Taylor Patterson, Sophomore Midfielder Gina Pacheco and Sophomore Defender/Midfielder Valorie O'Brien who scored in the 37Th,46Th and 48Th minutes respectively.

Depaul clipped Providence College 1-0. The game winning goal came from Sophomore Forward Morgan Celaya in the 67Th minute of play.

Georgetown drubbed Pittsburgh 3-0. The goals came from Graduate Student Forward, Sara Jordan who netted in the 51Th and 66Th minutes respectively. Sophomore Forward Samantha Barker made it 3-0 when she netted in the 87Th minute of play.

Women's Soccer:Saint John's Dismantles Seton Hall

Sophomore Forward Jen Leaverton scored twice in Saint John's 3-1 win over Seton Hall.

Saint John's women's soccer team had a come from behind win over Seton Hall earlier today. Seton Hall opened the scoring when Senior Midfielder Kaitlyn Rodgers netted in the 9Th minute of play. Saint John's found the equalizer and game winning goal in the second half, when Sophomore Forward Jen Leaverton netted twice in the 57Th and 63Rd minutes respectively. Senior Forward Kaitlin Haas made it 3-1 when she netted in the 83Rd minute.

Rutgers blanked Syracuse 2-0. The goals came from Senior Forward Karla Schacher and Red-Shirt Freshman April Price who scored in the 59Th and 78Th minutes respectively.

Mens Soccer:Games on in the Big East Today 10/14/09

Senior Forward Bright Dike and Notre Dame entertains #23 ranked Indiana in Soccernista's match of the day.

There are several games on today in the Big East Conference. Connecticut entertains Harvard,Cincinnati welcomes Michigan,West Virgina hosts Elon and Louisville entertains the University of Kentucky.Other games on today include Depaul playing away to Loyola-Chicago,South Florida entertains Florida Atlantic,Saint John's plays away at Princeton and in Soccernista's match of the day Notre Dame entertains Indiana.

Men's Soccer:#9 Maryland Edge Georgetown 2-1 and More Soccer Results

Junior Defender/Midfielder Alex Verdi and Georgetown went down 2-1 to #9 ranked Maryland.


Number 9 ranked Maryland edged Georgetown 2-1. Maryland opened the scoring through Drew Yates in the 7Th minute of play.Maryland's Jason Herrick made it 2-0 in the 11Th minute. Georgetown's consolation goal came from Freshman Midfielder Jimmy Nealis in the 31St minute of the play.

Bucknell edged Marquette 2-1. Bucknell opened the scoring through Brendan Burqdorf in the 63Rd minute of the game. Marquette equalized through Freshman Forward Andrew Krynski in the 86Th minute. Bucknell scored the winning goal in overtime when CK Kumah netted in the 108Th minute of play.

Providence College and Yale battled to a 1-1 draw. Providence Junior Midfielder Matt Marcin opened the scoring when he netted in the 3Rd minute of play. Yale later found the equalizer through Brad Rose in the 86Th minute of play.

Hartwick College clipped Syracuse 2-1. The Orange men opened the scoring when Sophomore Forward L.J Papaleo netted in the 30Th minute. Hartwick equalized when Sam Wright scored in the 44Th minute. Hartwick got the game winning goal when Dan Summers netted in the 53Rd minute of play.

Brown University slammed Rutgers 3-1. Rutgers drew first blood when Ibrahim Kamara scored in the 18Th minute. Brown roared back to life and scored 3 unanswered goals when Nick Elena-Martin,Thomas McNamara and David Walls scored in the 32Nd,67Th and 70Th minutes respectively.

Men's Soccer:West Virginia takes on Connecticut Live on National T.V !

Sophomore Midfielder Tony Cascio and Connecticut plays away at West Virginia in a nationally televised game.

Only one men's soccer game will be on in the Big East Conference today. The game which will be nationally televised live on Fox Soccer Channel sees Sophomore Midfielder Tony Cascio and high flying Connecticut playing away at West Virginia. Though I can never foresee which West Virginia team will show up, I expect a fiercely competitive game from Senior Defender Jason Bristol and the Mountaineers in this 'Blue Division' top of the table clash.

Men's Soccer:Connecticut Slammed Providence College 4-0 !!

Sophomore Midfielder Tony Cascio scored twice in Connecticut's 4-0 win over Providence College.

Connecticut men's soccer team who came out blazing on all cylinders slammed Providence College 4-0. The first goal came from Freshman Forward Carlos Alvarez who scored in the 6Th minute of play. Junior Forward Alan Ponce made it 2-0 when he scored in the 18Th minute.Sophomore Midfielder Tony Cascio scored twice when he netted in the 20Th and 59Th minutes respectively.

West Virginia and Pittsburgh each received a point when they battled to a 0-0 draw in double overtime.

Big East Conference Men's Soccer Weekly Awards 10/5/09

Syracuse Red Shirt Freshman Goalkeeper Ryan Jones had Five(5) Crucial Saves in Syracuse's Huge 3-0 upset win over Rutgers .


This week's recipient of the Big East men's soccer awards came from several different schools. The Big East Offensive Player of the Week is Louisville Junior Forward Mark Knight. The junior scored twice over the weekend in Louisville's 6-0 drubbing of Depaul.

Connecticut midfielder Junior Midfielder Robert Brickley was named Big East Defensive Player of the week. Brickley and Connecticut shut out Georgetown 1-0 over the weekend.

South Florida goalie Junior Jeff Attinella was named Big East Conference Goalkeeper of the week. The Junior had seven(7) saves in a 2-0 shut out win over Cincinnati.

Syracuse Red Shirt Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Jones is Big East Conference Rookie of the Week. The freshman had five(5) save in a huge 3-0 win over Rutgers.

The Big East Conference 'B' list awards a.k.a the shout outs honorees are: West Virginia Senior Defender Jason Bristol, Connecticut Sophomore Midfielder Tony Cascio, Notre Dame Senior Defender Jason Morrow,Providence College Sophomore Midfielder Daniel Fabian and Louisville Senior Defender Phil Edginton.

Big East Conference Women's Soccer Weekly Awards:10/5/09

West Virginia Junior Forward Megan Mischler Named Big East Offensive Player of the Week


Several women's soccer awards were given out today in the Big East Conference. West Virginia Junior Forward Megan Mischler was named Big East Offensive Player of the Week. The Junior scored two (2) goals over the weekend and four (4) points in games against Notre Dame and Depaul respectively.

Pittsburgh Junior Defender Kat Weiler was named Defensive Player of the Week. The Junior Defender and her teammates, kept Notre Dame off the score sheet in 0-0 double overtime game.

Cincinnati Senior goalie Andrea Kaminski was named Big East Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season. The Senior Goalkeeper had a total of 18 saves over two games including a 1-0 shut out win over Saint Johns.

Connecticut Freshman Midfielder Linda Ruutu was named Big East Rookie of the Week. The Freshman scored in two games over the weekend against formidable opponents Villanova and Georgetown respectively.

Now for what I call the 'B' List honors. This week's awards a.k.a shout outs go to Junior Defender Angellique Waller West Virginia Senior Defender Carolyn Blank,Georgetown Graduate Student Forward Sara Jordan,South Florida,South Florida Senior Goalkeeper,Mallori Lofton-Malachi and Connecticut Sophomore Forward Mellissa Busque.

Big East Men's Soccer Round Up:Louisville Demolished Depaul 6-0 !!

Junior Forward Mark Knight Scored Twice in Louisville's 6-0 win over Depaul.

Louisville men's soccer team were in a demolition mode today,when they crushed Depaul 6-0. The Cardinals opened the scoring through Sophomore Forward Colin Rolfe in the 4TH minute of play. Junior Forward Mark Knight hit the back of the net twice when he scored in 13Th and 16Th minutes respectively.Freshman Forward Paolo Delpiccolo made it 4-o by halftime when he scored in the 19Th minute. Red-Shirt Sophomore Midfielder Kenny walker and Freshman Forward Buck Tufty ensured the demolition was complete when they scored in the 55TH and 87Th minutes respectively.

South Florida blanked Cincinnati 2-0. The goals came from Freshman Defender/Midfielder Ashani Fairclough and Red-Shirt Sophomore Midfielder Bernardo Anor when they scored in the 51St and 83Rd minutes respectively.

Villanova and Saint John's battled to a 1-1 draw. Villanova opened the scoring through Senior Forward/Midfielder Mike Seamon in the 25Th minute. Saint John's would find the equalizer through Red-Shirt Junior Tadeu Tera in the 63Rd minute f play.

Providence blanked Pittsburgh 3-0. The in form Friars opening goal came from Junior Midfielder Andrew Sousa who scored in the 4Th minute of play. Sophomore Midfielder Daniel Fabian netted twice when he scored in the 13Th and 81St minutes respectively.

Connecticut clipped high flying Georgetown 1-0. Although Georgetown had possession of the ball most of the game,the all important goal came from Sophomore Midfielder Tony Cascio in the 55Th minute of play.

West Virginia edged Marquette 1-0. The winning goal came from Senior Defender Jason Bristol who scored in the 75Th minute of the game.

Big East Men's Soccer Round Up: Syracuse Squeezed Rutgers 3-0 !

Senior Midfielder/Forward Hansen Woodruff and Syracuse Crushed Rutgers 3-0!

Syracuse in huge surprise to many(myself included ) slam out of form Rutgers 3-0. The goals came from Senior Forward Tom Perevegyencev, Senior Midfielder/Forward Hansen Woodruff and Senior Midfielder/Forward Elliot Townsend in the 31St,33Rd and 84Th minutes respectively

Notre Dame edged Seton Hall 2-1. Fighting Irish Senior Midfielder Michael Thomas scored in the 50Th minute of play. Senior Midfielder Justin Morrows had the game winning goal when he found the back of the net in the 70Th minute. Seton Hall's consolation goal came from Bryan Martinez in the 18Th minute.
