Big East Conference Women's Soccer Results

Marquette University Sophomore Forward Lindsey Page (in white) Shields the ball.

Pittsburgh defeated Ohio State 2-1 , 2 goals coming from Freshman Midfielder Ashley Cuba in the 55Th and 78Th minute respectively.Ohio State's Paige Maxwell scored a consolation goal in the 58Th minute of play.Saint Johns defeated USC 2-1 behind goals from Senior Defender/Midfielder Vaila Barsley in the 38Th of play and Junior Midfield/Forward Raelynne Lee in the 76Th minute of play. Megan Ohai scored the consolation goal for USC. Marquette defeated Michigan 1-0 with late goal coming in the 83rd minute from Sophomore Forward Lindsey Page.There were also some losers on the day,as Delaware defeated Providence 1-0 and the University of Florida clipped the University of South Florida 2-1.

Big East Conference Women's Soccer Roundup!

Senior goalkeeper Erin Guthrie had a clean sheet as Rutgers demolished UMBC 4-0

Rutgers University women's soccer team trounced UMBC 4-0 as they open their 2009 soccer season. The goals came from Senior Forward Caycie Gusman who scored twice in the 5th minute and in the 14th minute of play. Senor Karla Schacher added a third goal in the 16th minute and Junior Forward/Midfielder Kelsey Dumont added a fourth goal in the 64th minute of play. Rutgers next game is against Fordham University.

Big East Women's Soccer Round Up

Sophomore Forward Emily Hebbeler scored the game winning goal for Cincinnati

Cincinnati got on the winners sheet for the first time this season. They defeated Ohio University 2-0. The goals came from Red-Shirt Sophomore Forward Emily Hebbeler in the 21st minute and Senior Midfielder/Forward Melissa Bigg in the 26th minute of play. Cincinnati next game is against Northeastern. Villanova trounced Temple 4-0 with goals coming from Sophomore Forward Katie Ryan,Senior midfielder Erin Byrnes and two goals from Freshman Forward Heidi Sabatura. Villaova's next game is against Virginia Tech.

Depaul made it two wins in a row after they defeated Northwestern University 3-2. Depauls next game is against Toledo. Marquette University lost its opening game to Pepperdine University 2-1. They consolation goal came from the boot of Sophomore Forward/Midfielder Lindsey Page. Marquette's next game is against Rice University. West Virgina were held to a had a goal less draw with Ohio State after double overtime. West Virginia next game is against Penn State.

Sky Blue FC- 2009 Women's Professional Soccer Champs!!

Sky Blue FC- 2009 Women's Professional Soccer Champs!!

Sky Blue FC won the inaugural Women's Professional Soccer Championships yesterday. They defeated the LA Sol 1-0 to take the crown. The goal which came in the 16th minute of play from the boot of forward and finals MVP Heather O'Reilly was enough for Sky Blue FC to win their first title. The Women's Pro Soccer Allstars will play Swedish women's club team Umea IK.All attention will now turn to the WPS Allstar Game that will be held at the Anheuser Busch Soccer Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri on August 30.Once again Congrats Sky Blue FC.

Big East Conference Women's Soccer Results

Junior Midfielder Tara Strickland scored in Depaul's 4-0 win over Loyola-Chicago.

Depaul University opened the season in fine form,defeating Loyola-Chicago 4-0. Depaul opened the scoring in the 11 minute of play with Junior Midfielder Tara Strickland opening the scoring. The other goals came from junior Forward Lauren Pagone in the 25th minute and Senior Defender Dominique Locascio in the 51 first minute of play. The fourth was an own goal by Loyola-Chicago.
Georgetown University also had a winning start to the 2009 season. They defeated American University 2-0, with goals coming from Junior Defender Michaela Buonomo in the 19th minute of play and Sophomore Forward Camille Trujillo in the 80th minute respectively.

Syracuse lost a tough game to St. Bonaventure 2-1 in double overtime. The consolation goal came from Freshman Midfielder Tina Romagnuolo.

Georgetown University Men's Soccer 2009 Preseason Profile

Georgetown men's soccer team is expected to compete for a spot at the 'Big Dance' this season.

Georgetown University men's soccer team won a total of eleven games last season,5 of those wins came in Big East Conference play.The Hoyas defeated Cincinnati 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament.They later lost in the semi-finals 2-1 to eventual Big East Tournament Champs University of South Florida. After last seasons successful campaign, the Hoyas will look to returning players such as: Senior Midfielder Scott Larebee,Junior Midfielder Seth C'deBaca,Junior Midfielder Chandler Diggs,Sophomore Forward Uche Onyeador and preseason all Big East selection,Senior Defender Len Coleman,Other players expected to make an impact for the Hoyas include:Senior Defender Mark Zeman,Junior Defender/Midfielder Alex Verdi,Junior Midfielder Robert Burnett ,Sophomore Forward David Madison and Junior Defender Ibu Otegbeye.The Hoyas are expected to advance well into the Big East Championship round this season.

The team is Coached by Brian Wiese.

Georgetown University Women's Soccer 2009 Preseason Profile

Georgetown University Coach Dave Nolan and members of the women's Soccer Team.

Georgetown university women's soccer team had a magnificent season last year, winning some 13 games. Eight of those wins came in Big East Conference play. Georgetown later lost to UCONN 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the the Big East Tournament.The team will look to returning players such as Sophomore Forward Samantha Barker,Sophomore Midfielder Kelly D'Ambrisi, Senior Midfielder Stephanie Zare and preseason all Big East first team select, R-Shirt Sophomore Ingrid Wells.Other players expected to make an impact for Georgetown this season include : Junior Defender Michaela Bounomo,Senior Defender Norah Swanson and Senior Defender Laura Snyder.For Georgetown to be truly successful this season,they will have to start defeating teams and winning games in the post season where is actually counts.

The team is coached by Dave Nolan.

Men's Soccer:Notre Dame & St. John's Voted 2009 Preseason Big East Conference Division Favorites!!


Notre Dame and St. John's were chosen to win the 2009 Big East Conference Division Title(s) respectively. The teams were voted on by head coaches from Big East Conference member schools. However,the coaches were not allowed to vote for their respective teams.In the Blue Division, Notre Dame were voted to win the division,while Connecticut were voted to finish second and Georgetown University third. In the Red Division, St.John's were voted favorites to win that division with USF placing second and Depaul Unversity finishing third. The Big East Conference is set to kick off on September 18,2009.

Women's Soccer :West Virginia & Notre Dame Voted Big East Conference Preseason Division Favorites!!


West Virginia and Notre Dame women's soccer teams were voted preseason favorites to win the Big East Conference American and National Division titles respectively. In the American Division West Virginia were voted to finish in first place,while the University of Connecticut were voted to finish second and Marquette University chosen to finish in third place. While in the National Division, Notre Dame were voted to finish first while Rutgers is tabbed to finish second and Georgetown University third. Imagine what the other Big East contenders are are thinking?....Upset Maybe?? We will see as the season progresses Big East Conference play is expected to kick off on September 17,2009.

Men's Soccer: 2 Big East Conference Players Selected to M.A.C Hermann Watch List!!

St. Johns Senior Defender Joel Gustafsson selected to the NCAA Division 1 Men's Soccer 2009 M.A.C Herman Trophy Watch List.

Connecticut Senior Midfielder Toni Stahl Selected to the 2009 NCAA Division 1 Men's Soccer M.A.C Hermann Trophy Watch List.

Two (2) players from the Big East Conference were selected to this seasons prestigious Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy watch list. The players are Saint Johns Senior Defender Joel Gustafsson and Connecticut Senior Midfielder Toni Stahl . Both players go up against a very competitive field that includes front runner and preseason favorite, Creighton Senior Forward Byron Darby. Seven (7) players from the Big East Conference made the Missouri Athletic Club's annual Hermann Trophy watch list. The award is given to the top male and female soccer players at the NCAA Division 1 level. The Hermann Trophy is often referred to as the Heisman trophy of soccer. R.I.P Espanyol Captain Daniel Jargue!!

R.I.P Epanyol Captain Daniel Jarque January 1,1983-August 8,2009

La Liga and Espanyol captain Dani Jarque reportedly died from cardiac arrest while in pre season training in Coverciano ,Italy. He was only 26 years old. The team has reportedly canceled their pre season training sessions and will return to Spain.

Chelsea FC Defeat Manchester United To Win Community Shield !!

Chelsea Football Club are the 2009 Community Shield Champs!!

Chelsea Defeated Manchester United 4-1 in penalty kicks after a 2-2 draw.Man-U was the first team to score after Nani beat two players to score from 25 yards out.Then in the second half, Chelsea Defender Roberto Carvalho equalised. Then Midfielder Frank Lampard gave Chelsea the go ahead goal in the seventieth minute of play. Man -U Forward Wayne Rooney added intrigue when he equalized in 90th minute to send the game into Penalty Kicks. Chelsea then went on to win 4-1 in penalty Kicks. If this game is anything to measure the upcoming premiere ship season by, then we will have several interesting games to watch.

The University of Pittsburgh men's soccer team won 7 games last season,3 of those wins came in Big East Conference play. Pittsburgh lost to Depaul 3-1 in the first round of the Big East Conference Championship. Although the Panthers lost prolific players E.J McCormick and Eric Jaeger to gradation, ,they will be looking to returning players such as Junior Midfielder Justin Boehm,Senior Midfielder Mike McDade and Senior Forward Chris Wilcox.Other players expected to make an impact for Pittsburgh this season include Senior Midfielder Matt Baker,Sophomore Defender Sam Luffy,Junior Defender Shane Flowers and Sophomore Forward Adam Monteverde.

The University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team won a total of 7 games last season, 4 of which came in Big East Conference play.Pittsburgh who saw post season action in the Big East Championship, lost in the first round to Louisville 1-0.Pittsburgh will look to returning players such as sophomore Midfielder Katelyn Ruhe, Junior Midfielder Liz Carol, Junior Midfielder Laura Berbert and the team's leading goalscorer from last season,Ashley Habbel. Other players expected to make an for Pittsburgh this season include Junior Defender Kat Weiler,Senior Midfielder Maura Caslin,Junior Defender Rebecca Fraser and Senior Midfielder katie Caslin.

With so many experience players returning, Pittsburgh should again be a contender for a Big East Conference play off spot.
